#3 of 6 in Parks in Hagatna
Funded by Japanese donors, South Pacific Memorial Park features a large, white monument with sloping spires representing hands clasped in prayer for all those who died fighting in World War II. Near the monument, you can see a path leading to the bunker network in which the Japanese commander and his men hid just before they lost control of Guam. You can also check out a Buddhist temple that now houses artifacts from the conflict. • We stopped by for a round-the-island tour. On August 11, 1944, the former Japanese Military Command was wiped out. A quiet place with peace temple and a 15-meter-high memorial tower. The white memorial tower is inspired by the hand that is palmed. There was also a monument to Prime Minister Shigeru Yoshida on the right. The flag of Guam, the United States, and Japan is flying. There was a place to see more (when you go down the stairs across from Heiwa-ji Temple, and the caves decided by Lieutenant General Hidera Obata and 60 or more generals, tanks where the Japanese army stored drinking water, etc.), the guide of the Japanese guide that has finished here is regrettable.

  • It is a war memorial monument that Japan and the United States cooperated in the call of the local priest. There was a temple called the Peace Temple on the site, and the write messages and the thousand cranes of the school excursion students were dedicated. There were also some visitors who were away from the tourist spots, but I had a moment to think about the people who had left their homeland and sacrificed.

  • This place has the best remaining Japanese bunkers on Guam. Unfortunately many of the brass plaques have been stolen. Considering over whelming odds, Commander Lt. General Obata directed his final counter attack and eventually took his own life in these caves accepting defeat from the advancing American forces. It is now a very sober place for reflection, prayer and dedicated to Peace.
  • Great place to learn about Guam's limestone and aquifer. Hope you have a good guide. If not contact WERI👍👍
