Agia Irini Gorge Reviews
Wspomnienia z wrześniowej wędrówki przez wąwóz Agia Irini (Agia Irini Gorge). Wejście do wąwozu znajduje się niedaleko wioski Agia Irini (i takie przejście w jedną stronę jest łatwiejsze, bo więcej si... more »Memories of the September trek through the ravine Agia Irini (Agia Irini Gorge). The entrance to the ravine is located near the village of Agia Irini (and such a one-way transition is easier, because more descends than enters, but also attention, it is quite varied in the levels of the ravine and thus sometimes enters, then a little to go down, and then enter again; however, going from the village side we overcome at the beginning the greatest climb coming down, which is a little easier). For more tenacious or challenging - you can also enter the gable from the other side, that is, from the side of the Oasis Tavern. Under the tavern there is a large parking lot, where you can leave the car. Going into the gintus from this site, we did not come across anyone who could pay for admission (normally admission is paid probably 3 €/person.). It wasn't our intention not to pay, but it worked out. We were more keen to get back after the car, so going one way when we had more strength and then going down, it seemed to us a better idea than vice versa. So we started the hike near the Oasis Tavern. To enter the gorge, you need to point left behind the arrow that is slightly behind the entrance to the tavern. You need to watch out for the wasp wheel of grapes. At first you go a pretty long stretch of bottom stream. It is very rocky. Somewhere I read that once the trail ran along the stream a more comfortable path, but after the last winter and rains this path running along has broken and now we go the bottom. Along the way, 2 ladders of wooden branches pass. The landscape also changes several times, sometimes we go up, sometimes down, a little after the stones, a little on the paths. The path also runs m.in. next to herbs, which as a result of the sun gave off such an intense smell that some may associate it with incense. In any case, it smelled very intense and herbal. The trail is marked with blue and red spots from paint on the rocks (especially where we walk the bottom of the stream). Sometimes it required a more careful look, which way you have to turn, but it is impossible to get lost. Along the way, posts with a determination of kilometers are also passed. In total, the trail is almost 7 km. There was tap water in one place, but rather to refresh yourself than to drink. Comfortable footwear required, rather trekking-mountain, lots of water and a headdress. On the trail we met a total of 12 people, so quite intimately :)
Schitterende wandeling. Kost €2 pp, kids gratis. Goede schoenen nodig, wij hadden bergschoenen aan. Veel over stenen, rotsen etc dus niet voor zwakke enkels of knieën. With children aged 9 and 11 we walked 3, 5 hours; Quietly done and daughter who was hard to motivate. With his two, we had done it in 2, 5hours. Lots of shade. Downstairs Nice Tavern, yummy meze, on request they call taxi for you to go back to entrance (20min €35) where the car stood.
Wonderful half day hike. 2 Euro entrance fee is ok for mantainance. Enough drinking water stations so dont carry too much with you. You can easily hitchhike back to your car, don’t need to pay for a taxi.
Wonderful place to go for a walk in nature. A few climbs here and there but indeed reasonable. We were there on a hot day and had trouble getting our usually energetic children (10 and 12 years old) to keep it up until the end. We parked at one end and took the cab to go back to the car. Giving it 4 stars because the rest area would benefit from being better taken care of (not all water points were functional, for instance).
