Discover how Bavarian royalty lived and governed at Munich Residenz, the largest city palace in Germany. You'll be drawn in by its opulent architecture, elaborate room decorations, and displays from the former royal collections. The complex includes ten courtyards and 130 rooms. Built in 1385, the palace was originally a small, moated castle. The kings of Bavaria gradually expanded it to use as a private residence and an official seat of government. The renowned court theater here opened for public performances in 1795. The complex also houses the primary concert hall for Bavaria's famous symphony orchestra. Though you can't get a guided tour, you can pick free audio guides at the palace museum. Ask Inspirock to suggest an itinerary and make planning a trip to Munich fast, fun, and easy.
Munich Residenz reviews
We easily spent a few hours wondering the halls of the palace. I think the only palace I've visited that competes in size is Versailles. This was HUGE and it took quite a while to visit all the... more »
Wonderfully friendly and helpful host. Beautiful building in a quiet neighborhood with good shops and cafes nearby. Close enough to the centre to walk and public transport is close by. Excellent... more »
Really cool but if you’re not into museums I don’t recommend. If you get the combo-ticket for all 3 attractions and follow along with the audio guide, the whole thing it takes about 4 hours... we just got tickets and walked through on our own, but without the audio guide there is not much information about anything so it’s hard to do it that way and just see things for yourself as well. Reasonably priced, students are free, college students are discounted, make sure to ask!
Amazing place! A great lesson of History! Prepare your legs, the building is huge. I don't even know if I visited all the accessible rooms. Plenty of paintings, royal objects and furniture explaining how the royal life was.
