St. Ursula, Cologne

4.4
The home of St. Ursula's legend, the site where St. Ursula is built is said to be the burial spot for the 11,000 virgins in Princess Ursula's entourage who were killed by attacking Huns. The only corroborating evidence for this event is a manuscript that rests in the basilica. The book, along with the alleged relics of the 11,000 virgins and St. Ursula, are housed in the main cathedral. The walls of the Golden Chamber are decorated with relics and bones encased in gold, all of which create shapes and form Latin letters. These bones are thought to belong to the sacred virgins that died along with Ursula. Use our Cologne road trip planning website to add St. Ursula and other attractions to your Cologne vacation plans.

  • The history in Köln amazes me and St Ursula is one of the most unique places we went to while living in Köln. I wish they had more visiting hours for the bone room as we returned 5 times and only saw the room opened to guests once. It is for sure, worth going to. Sad history of the room, but amazing to see. Go here, you won’t regret it.
  • Interesting history but not much information is given (in German or English). Well preserved but not anything I'd recommended visiting unless you have time to kill and are near by. The 'bone' room is cool, but not really anything overly special. The individuals there are all random people who fought and died over whose God was the true God.
