Abanotubani, Tbilisi

3.8
#1 of 18 in Spas in Georgia
Abanotubani, famous for its sulfur baths, defines itself with low-domed architecture and the unmistakable scent of sulfur. Legend has it that this is the area where King Vakhtang lost his hunting falcon when it fell into the hot water of the springs. He was so surprised and impressed with the water that he founded a city here. Research which bathhouses will be most accommodating before you visit. Proprietors will usually speak little English, and some bathhouses are intended only for locals; others will require booking ahead of time. It is recommended that you bring your own towel and sandals. The area also features a mosque and several cafes. To find out how to plan a trip to Tbilisi, use our trip itinerary maker.
