Pointe-Denis Beach, Libreville

One of the country's major breeding grounds for leatherback turtles, Pointe-Denis Beach is also a popular vacation destination featuring a long stretch of white sand. Gently sloping into the ocean and with dense vegetation and palm trees in the background, the beach provides an ideal setting for a leisurely stroll, a run, or a family picnic. In addition to swimming and snorkeling, you can also take a whale-spotting boat tour from here. Several eateries and bungalows provide food and services. • Inside Pongara National Park just across from the Libreville Estuary. It takes between 25 and 35 min to arrive. We went with a boat from Marine Michelle in Libreville. The journey costs between 10,000 and 12,000 CFA / 15-18 euros per person round trip. If you do not reach one of the official boats you can look for alternatives in the port. We went on a maintenance workers' boat. Upon arrival we find white sandbeaches much cleaner than in Libreville (they are very dirty in the city). Some hotel establishments offer rooms and meals, all at very high prices. We walked to the Pointe-Denis and further south until we spotted the jungle area that reaches the sea. Eye! We think there are sand fleas!!.
