Luxembourg Gardens, Paris

4.7
#1 of 3,230 in Parks in France
In the heart of the Left Bank, Luxembourg Gardens is arguably the loveliest park in Paris, with lush lawns radiating out from a pond centerpiece. Inspired by the Boboli Gardens of Florence, these gardens were created in 1612 by Queen Marie de Medici. Whether you're by yourself or with a whole group, this park is a relaxing reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the city. You can watch locals play the legendary French game of boules or simply stroll past over 100 distinct statues. Luxembourg Gardens is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, Paris Edition.

  • Our family live nearby so as we were invited to lunch we decided to do a long walk around the gardens in the morning to work up an appetite. Lots of interesting things to look at.  more »
  • The Luxembourg Garden is a delightful place to walk for the followers of the left bank! Everything is there to encourage contemplation and rest. We can decide to stroll down the aisles or sitting on benches or the many chairs arranged around the pool or at the kiosk. Out of the Park it is possible to have a drink at the Rostang, brasserie literary, to eat a small end to the little Switzerland or buy an umbrella at Simon, one of the oldest manufacturer of Paris, if the sky is threatening!

  • Little Piece of Heaven! There are many beautiful green spaces/gardens in Paris, but Luxembourg Gardens was my favorite. The vibration of the place is amazing, specially if it is a sunny day.. There are amazing statues scattered around and gigantic fountains. :)) There was a gorgeous little shaded duck pond and stunning manicured hedges everywhere. A lovely place to visit!
  • Beautiful gardens, wonderful place for a picnic. The playground area was very nice. Love that the floor is not sand. It is a soft tiled surface. The older kids play area looked really nice although my son is 2 and was not able to use it. I was tempted to try some myself :)
  • A great place to get some quiet time. People tend to gather around the shallow pools where there are plenty of chairs. You'll often see kids playing with toy boats on the water. There are wooded areas that offer shade, permanent table tennis tables in one area, gazebos that sometimes feature jazz bands. One thing to note is that the park closes fairly early in the evenings. Park officials and their whistles make it pretty clear when it's time to leave.
  • This place has a nice, relaxed, family vibe to it that I can appreciate. A recommendation I would give is for more allotted areas devoted to lying on the grass! We only came across one - every other patch informed people to please keep off. More grass and less sand would make this a 5 star park.
  • Great refuge from the city. You can easily spend a few hours here relaxing and enjoying a nap in the public chairs. Only downside is they are strict about not sitting on the grass in the forest. Seems a bit strange because that's the nicer part to visit if you want a break from the crowds.
