Trip Planner: Europe / France / Normandy / Haute-Normandie / Eure / Le Bec-Hellouin / Abbey of Bec-Hellouin
Abbey of Bec-Hellouin was once the most influential abbeys in the Anglo-Norman kingdom. When you visit, you’ll find yourself on the banks of a peaceful river, where you can explore some of the finest ecclesiastical architecture of the 17th and 18th century. On the tour, you will experience the cloister, the 15th century bell tower of Saint-Nicolas, the monastic quarters, the abbey church, and a display of crafts and artifacts made by the monks.
Like all abbeys, this site maintained annals of the house, but uniquely its first abbots also received individual biographies, brought together by the monk of Bec, Milo Crispin. Abbey of Bec-Hellouin Reviews
Prettiest village I have ever been to and the abbey is gorgeous. There are a couple of good restaurants in the village and the voie verte goes through it for walking or cycling more »
The setting in the countryside and close to the nearby village is beautiful. The inside of the church in the Abbey grounds is stunning its simplicity and austere and elegant design. An ideal... more »
Visited the abbey several times in the past years. It is a beautiful place. Last time (in 2018) we got a tour in the abbey church by one of the monks. It was very interesting. The museum shop has moved in another building. The monks sell self-manufactured tableware, religious books and food. The buildings are in good shape. The bell tower Saint-Nicolas is impressive.
A calm, serene place with an extensive abbey and a magniificent tower. It is in a beautiful setting enclosed by a lovely stone wall with a twin-towered entrance. Parts are still in use and part is being restored. Well worth visiting both the abbey and the village
