Pont de Pierre, Bordeaux

4.5
The first bridge over the Garonne River at Bordeaux, Pont de Pierre was planned and designed under the orders of Napoléon Bonaparte, though its construction took place during the Bourbon Restoration between 1819 and 1822. Notice that the bridge stands on 17 arches (coincidently the same number of letters in the name Napoléon Bonaparte). White medallions cap each side in honor of the emperor, alongside the city's coat of arms (three intertwined crescents). This was the only bridge in the area until the construction of Pont Saint-Jean in 1965. • Speaking of Bordeaux, Pierre Bridge is a picture of guidebooks and postcards that is said to be this bridge. At night, the outside lights come on, creating a nice landscape that is different from the daytime. In addition to being able to walk across, there is a bridge where only transportation buses, trams and taxis can be crossed. On sunny days, rain, fog and nightly, the historic bridge adds a flower to the city of Bordeaux.

  • Do not hesitate to pass on this very beautiful bridge. The first built in Bordeaux, it has retained all its charm.

  • This was another mandatory stop during our visit to Bordeaux. We walked it back and forth a couple of times just to look and take pictures around. Great photo opportunities and a good walking location. It was closed for vehicles during my visit but bikes and pedestrians were allowed to go through.
  • Good view; always a breeze on the bridge.
