Gasadalur Tunnel, Gasadalur

The construction of Gasadalur Tunnel in 2004 finally provided a convenient connection between the small village of Gasadalur and the rest of the world. Take the tunnel through the mountain, and you'll reach one of the tiniest Scandinavian villages, with just about two dozen inhabitants. Gasadalur stands near the edge of a tall, steep cliff, surrounded by some of the highest mountains in the area. The residents hope the tunnel will breathe new life into their slowly diminishing settlement, which for centuries was accessible only via a difficult mountain route. Enjoy the fresh air and striking views of the sea and mountains, and make a trip to the waterfall near the village, which plunges into the sea underneath.
