Khan Al-Khalili, Cairo

#1 of 116 in Shopping in Cairo
Soak up the atmosphere and pick out a souvenir at Khan Al-Khalili, a historic souk built in the 14th century. With a maze-like layout and artfully arranged shop fronts and stalls, the market caters largely to international tourists these days. Some areas, such as the gold and spice-selling districts, remain seemingly unchanged, with countless merchants all located close to one another, creating a striking visual effect and lending itself well to photography. Make Khan Al-Khalili part of your personalized Cairo itinerary using our Cairo trip planner.

  • This bazaar is exactly what I expected to see in Egypt. There are lots and lots of shops. Some good deals to be had here too. Must visit!!  more »
  • If you want to see people, a lot of people, and even get overwhelmed with crowds, take to this great bazaar, where one and the other shop offers the same trinkets and souvenirs, where haggling is a demand and gets tiring from how boring it can become,.. for a fight of price and quality, be careful with what you buy and what you get and you take home which is usually different,.. picaresque everywhere... nothing to do with Istanbul's Grand Bazaar

  • A magical place, most famous over the world and respectful increasing year by year, that all refer to this place deeply into the heart of the ancient neighborhood in the Egyptian capital -- Khan El-Khalili. If you intend enjoying with or looking up a vital period in the Egyptian history, then you need to take a tour to that place, a walk through its streets and smallest roads. You will see ancient mosques and historical buildings. Never you can resist the magic of the small shops, coffee shops and restaurants which are existent thorough into the area.
  • Bazaars were a little bit different than what I thought.. There were so many people that walking peacefully around & watching was impossible. Also this place needs several hours of time to wonder it through because its so huge and oh yes so full of life! Will be going again, but with different schedule & attitude 👍
