Mit Rahina Museum, Al Badrashin

Monument Ruin Must See
See one of the world's most famous archaeological discoveries at Mit Rahina Museum. The 10 m (34 ft) long limestone statue of a prone Ramses II, the famous Egyptian pharaoh, still stands where it was found in 1820 near the village of Mit Rahina. Today, a small museum built around the colossus affords some protection and context. Get up close to the statue and pay attention to its details--the ideal surfaces, and the accurate anatomy of the human body, hand-carved with simple tools. • Pretty cool to see the temple right before going up to the Sphinx. Learning about how the Egyptians laid the stone. Then you just have to wonder how they accomplished many of the sculptures and structures. Fairly cheap to enter part of the package deal with the 160LE ticket. I enjoyed it.
  • Located 20km south of Giza in Memphis in what feels like a suburban area, the Mit Rahina Museum is open-air and offers a range of artefacts - the remains of buildings, statues and more from the period 3000 BC. The main attraction is a large statue of Ramses II, which is no longer erect. Expect to spend up to an hour inspecting all of the items if you're detail oriented. If you're just after a few photos you could be in and out in under 30 minutes.
