Petrinska rozhledna, Prague

For a little Czech-flavored taste of Paris, visit Petrinska rozhledna, dominating the surrounding area from its location high above the Vltava River. Built in 1891, this 63 m (206 ft) tall steel structure is a scaled-down copy of Paris' Eiffel Tower. The structure features 299 steps, which run on the inside of the tower and lead to two separate observation platforms. After decades of service as a transmission tower, massive renovations in 1999 turned the structure into a tourist attraction, adding a small cafe, gift shop, and exhibit area to its lower levels. Pay the small fee to access the tower's observation platforms, offering unbeatable views of the entire city. • Great views from the top, the side that faces the river has open windows so you can get pictures without the glass glare. I would definitely recommend taking a taxi or an Uber to the top and not try w...  more »
  • We got the funicular up and then walked across to the Tower. We walked up all the steps of the Petrin Tower, certainly feels higher than it is. Magnificent views over the city, the best views I saw. C...  more »

  • Good spot to get a great view over the city from the western riverbank. Pretty cheap entry fee. You can hump it up the stairs or ride the lift for a few more pence. Note though that on the way down they turf you out on a lower platform, and you have to walk down the stairs to the ground. Bit odd. The viewing platform at the top is fairly small and has windows that can be opened in good weather to get clear photos. The tower is based on the Eiffel Tower by all accounts.
  • The hike to get to the tower wasn't the most fun to do. There are a lot of steps to reach the base of the tower. Same thing to get to the bottom of the hill. It was quite steep and not paved nicely where the left and right side would have different levels. The normal price of the tower at the time was 150 (approximately 6 euros) but there is a students discount if you have your card with you. The student ticket costs 80 (approximately 3.5 euros). The lift is for 60 (2.5 euros). I would advise to take the stairs since it wasn't really that high and there are resting benches on the way. The climb consists of 2 main floors. The first floor is unobstructed with no glass shielding. The view is pretty good and you can take great photos there. The second floor (top of the tower) has a glass shielding so the photos won't be good. At the time of the visit the top floor was so crowded with a lot of people that I just took a quick glimpse of the view and went down. The reason of a 3 out of 5 stars is because of the uneven terrain and the very hard climb and descend, and because of how crowded it gets at the top with very little room to take any photos and due to the obstructed view. I would still recommend to take photos on the first floor.
