Konopiste Castle became famous as the last residence of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, whose assassination in Sarajevo triggered World War I. Stop by to the castle's museum to see the bullet that killed him, which was fired by Gavrilo Princip. Take a guided tour to see Ferdinand's residential rooms, a shooting hall with moving targets (he was an avid hunter), and a garden with Italian Renaissance statues and greenhouses. Explore the third-largest European collection of armory and medieval weapons, as well as a large collection of antlers. After a short walk from the parking lot you arrive at the castle. Really nice building with a terrace that allows nice views over a lake and the park. more »

Take a train ride to Benesov and explore the walk to Konopiste from there. Nice museum which is open from 31st March till summer end. Nice restaurant with wild menu available for food lovers. more »

Beautiful and unbelievable Castle and story, BUT few negatives points. The positive points: - different tours - a bear living in the Castle - translation for how doesn’t speak CZECH. The negative points: - not possible to take pictures inside the tours:/ what for me was disappointing. - birds( owls , falcons) chained the whole day to a perch for people to look and take pictures. You can even hold the owls for a price around 50 -100 CZ At the end was a very good experience. Few pictures I have done to register my passage on there.

Fantastic day, walking around Konopište Castle. We drive 45 minutes to spend the day afternoon here, walking around this amazing landmark, soaking in the history. It's worth the drive, unique sights and one can feel the centuries of history here, as you can in many of the wonderful places in the Czech Republic.
