Kosljun - Monastery Museum, Krk Island

#3 of 10 in Museums in Kvarner Bay Islands
Specialty Museum · Hidden Gem · Museum
On a little island surrounded by dark turquoise water, just across from the mainland, you'll find Kosljun - Monastery Museum. The island is known for its 16th century Franciscan monastery, and for the extensive collection of artifacts and items that monks have been collecting here for centuries. The collection today has been turned into a museum within the white, arched walls of the original monastery. The museum showcases productions of both Krk fishermen and farmers, authentic costumes, a zoological collection, and a library. The church here is a museum in itself, having been converted to the Baroque style in the 18th century. Many important pieces of art, including Ptolemy's atlas, can be found here.
