#1 of 8 in Museums in Yalta
Nestled in gardens amidst a host of exotic plants, Chekhov House & Museum contains the original interiors and possessions of Anton Chekhov, a celebrated playwright and author of numerous short stories. The site dates back to 1898, when the writer decided to move here after his father's death. After decorating the modern white mansion and completing its gardens, Chekov wrote numerous prominent works in the house. You can still see his large coat in the cupboard, as well as other personal belongings. Check out the antique furniture and Ericsson telephone that the family used, and admire the rich architectural details. Pay particular attention to the intricately decorated arch above the main door. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Yalta holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Chekhov House & Museum and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • I very much enjoyed the experience, and recommend all lovers of literature and history pay a visit!
  • Modest and original house. It is also called the "White Cottage." Inside, too, somehow modest and calm. The furnishings of the rooms are very well preserved. Furniture of different styles, patterned or striped wallpaper, stained glass, Russian-style objects, oriental carpets and classic curtains all convey the spirit of the early 20th century. The highlight of the office on the first floor is inserted into the fireplace etude of Levitan with stacks of moonate at night. He wrote it after Chekhov complained that he yearn for the northern landscapes (similar to the work "Twilight. Stoga," but more square and no longer etude is in Tretyakovka). Separately, it is worth mentioning the large garden. It is beautiful and diverse, and smells of goodie). You can sit on the benches and relax in it. For those who will be in Yalta, I highly recommend to visit this place.
