Wigmore's Waterfall, Rarotonga

2.0
#3 of 6 in Nature in Cook Islands
Splash into the swimming hole at the base of Wigmore's Waterfall, where water cascades down a sloping cliff. Bring your water shoes if you plan to swim, and wear plenty of bug repellant to chase off mosquitos. Before you go, ask the locals if the waterfall is worth visiting. During the dry season, the government redirects water to the town supply, leaving the waterfall almost completely dry. Make Wigmore's Waterfall a centerpiece of your Rarotonga vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Rarotonga trip planning site .

  • Beautiful place... But not too much water coming over the falls wen we were there. Would be great to see after a big rainfall.
  • At the end of cross island track it's a beautiful sight.
  • Would be ok if there was water coming down the waterfall but has been dry leading up to our trip, we visited this place on the Buggy tour
  • The best waterfalls in the whole country
  • Great little supermarket, cheaper then other stores.

Where to stay in Rarotonga

Since pristine white beaches and turquoise lagoons are never far away in Rarotonga, where you stay depends entirely on how much you want to spend. The hotels and resorts tend to cluster around the most scenic beaches and lagoons. At the higher end, luxury resorts offer pampering comfort, but often share their beaches with much more affordable accommodations. If you want to explore a certain part of the island, look for lodgings nearby: although the buses are extremely convenient, they tend to meander at a very slow pace.
