Shanghai Museum (Shanghai Bowuguan) Reviews
Not bad to give a general overview, however there are better curated exhibits that can provide a history of the city. If you want to kill time, you can walk through this briefly for an hour. more »
Conveniently located near Peoples Square with a Metro stop. Very modern with a wide range of displays of art, money, pottery, furniture, clothing, jade carvings, bronze castings, calligraphy seals... more »
Quite an interesting museum that is worth a visit if you are interested in Chinese history and have a couple days in Shanghai. It is totally free to enter and explore. Most of the exhibits are centered around art in some shape or form, from the history of Chinese stamps & seals to Chinese tapestries through the ages to paintings & photographs by Chinese photographers. Unfortunately, many of the signs & descriptions of the artifacts are not (yet) available in English.
This is a great museum to visit if you are touring Shanghai for a few days. It is free to all And located in the beautiful People’s Park. Not a world class museum but it does showcase a nice cross-section of China’s history. I would recommend going to the urban planning museum first if you are pressed for time in Shanghai as it provides an incredible overview of the city past present and future and provides information on each of the historical neighborhoods you can go tour.
