Shanghai Museum (Shanghai Bowuguan) reviews
This is a museum focused on ancient Chinese history and art. It's fantastic. It is also free (which is great) but means it also gets very crowded fast. Tickets have to be reserved on wechat by time... more »
Even though Shanghai is a young city by Chinese standards, this museum is still filled with history. You'll find traditional items such as carriages that were used to carry brides to their weddings... more »
Quite an interesting museum that is worth a visit if you are interested in Chinese history and have a couple days in Shanghai. It is totally free to enter and explore. Most of the exhibits are centered around art in some shape or form, from the history of Chinese stamps & seals to Chinese tapestries through the ages to paintings & photographs by Chinese photographers. Unfortunately, many of the signs & descriptions of the artifacts are not (yet) available in English.
This is a great museum to visit if you are touring Shanghai for a few days. It is free to all And located in the beautiful People’s Park. Not a world class museum but it does showcase a nice cross-section of China’s history. I would recommend going to the urban planning museum first if you are pressed for time in Shanghai as it provides an incredible overview of the city past present and future and provides information on each of the historical neighborhoods you can go tour.
