Kittiwake Shipwreck & Artificial Reef, West Bay

4.7
Explore the wreckage of a former World WarII U.S. submarine rescue ship at Kittiwake Shipwreck & Artificial Reef. Accessible to both certified divers and snorkelers, the wreck houses a large variety of colorful marine life, with eagle rays skimming through the sand below. Clear waters and openings in the ship itself allow sufficient lighting for you to navigate and examine the ship's many rooms underwater. The wreck itself is still quite new, so there is not much coral growth. • Do yourself a favor and book through Red Sail Sports. They have this down to a science. Amazing guided dive for me and my son. Water clarity is beyond amazing. Penetrating that wreck was the dive....  more »
  • This is the 4 th time for us to dive this wreck over the last few years. Still a great wreck to dive , now has more areas to “ swim through “ on all three levels. A huge Goliath grouper hangs out on.....  more »

  • A fantastic place to snorkel and scuba! Gorgeous clear water, many different beautiful fish, and a very interesting artificial reef made from a sunken ship.
  • This Wreck Dive absolutely should be on your diving bucket list. Outside of getting to the Cayman Islands themselves, this site is VERY accessible and is only a 8-10 minute boat ride from shore if you go with a charter. It's shallow enough for novice snorkelers to get to the mast, but scuba is the way to go to get inside. Even with the wreck on it's side, you can still access almost every area within the ship. Go explore! Remember this is a protected site, no touching (which means no gloves) while diving and do not take anything. Also, be sure to get your Kittiwake Dive Token.
