  • As a geologist, I always look for destinations that offer me some interesting natural feature to know. And well, this place has it all. It turns out that this is the southernmost fjord in the Northern Hemisphere. The fjord, as such, is the product of intense glacial activity for hundreds of thousands of years erating and carving rocks of about 1 billion years, until a deep and elongated canyon. This fjord, unlike most fjords around the world, does not flow directly into the sea, but delivers its waters to the Saint Lawrence River, which flows into the Atlantic Ocean. This interaction between salt and fresh water is the perfect setting for watching Beluga and Humpback whales, as well as seals and a variety of fish and birds. To finish with this natural description, the waters flowing through the are served by Lake Saint Jean, which is the product of a meteorite collision against the Earth's surface several million years ago. This place has it all, definitely!!!! Sagney Fjord National Park has several hiking trails in excellent condition. I made the path of The Statue. It was much easier than I expected and the view is spectacular. The scenery is stunning during the fall! :O In conclusion, this place has been one of my favorites in Canada.

  • A chance visit by cruise ship diverted to avoid bad weather at sea. A great experience to cruise the fjord bathed in sunshine with fabulous colours of 'the fall'. Docked overnight at town where a grea...  more »
  • Beautiful park with amazing views!! The fjords are so serene and spectacular! The hikes are not for the faint-hearted though. But the effort is well worth it. If you only have a few hours to spend here, I would recommend doing the monument/statue trail. It is strenuous and involves climbing up and down a ton of stairs. But well worth it!
  • Stunning views, great hikes and totally worth the drive. Beware of the chalets EXP, a scam not worth the money. They are located outside the national park, surrounded by private homes. A very expensive stay in a not so great country house! Go the extra mile and rent one of the modern EXP chalets, located in a beautiful setting, close to the service center.
