Londrina

Little London

Established in the early 1900s by foreign settlers, Londrina initially served as a stopover point for British coffee traders transporting beans from Paraná and São Paulo to the port of Santos. Having grown rapidly to more than 500,000 people, the city now has a modern, metropolitan feel, yet it retains the agricultural roots that helped build its wealth. It's believed that the soil in the area was made incredibly fertile by a large lava spill, which helped the region produce 60 percent of the world's coffee during its golden age. "Little London's" diverse history of foreign settlement is reflected in its demographics, as it sports large populations of people that claim British, Japanese, and German descent. Where to stay in Londrina

For a large city, Londrina doesn't provide a particularly wide range of accommodation options. You can get close to the most-visited attractions by staying in the city center, where most of the acommodations can be found. For something a bit more relaxed, stay in the neighborhood of Portuguesa, just northeast of the center, or look for something on the banks of the Ribeirão Do Cambé. Because there are few accommodations here, you'll struggle to find a wide range of budget options; most of the city's accommodations fall into the medium- or high-end bracket.
