Atalaia Beach, Fernando de Noronha

#6 of 27 in Parks in Fernando de Noronha
Part of a national marine park, Atalaia Beach invites travelers to explore its aquarium-like shallow natural pool, the largest one on the island. Nestled in a cove protected by a reef, the beach features a narrow strip of land covered with soft golden sand and round black stones, evidence of the island's volcanic history. Though snorkeling in the 40 cm (16 in) deep pool at low tide is ideal for beginners, experienced snorkelers may find it not stimulating enough. • We did the Atalaia Long trail with Jailson and it was sensational. He always counting the curiosities of the island along the route and the more you ask him the more he counts. It was a very good experience, besides good talk, he showed us the special corners of the island, suggested we enter a natural pool that many ignore and guess: we go with a sea turtle there! < 3 The path is medium to high difficulty, as it has 1500 meters of walking on stones and you need to have a lot of attention in all the steps, because the stones are not always fixed and it is dangerous to slip. As we commented on the difficulty of the journey, Jailson commented that there was another way to be done that did not pass through the stones, but we did the hardest even:) I recommend the experience!

  • It is difficult to find words, not having the gift of writing, to describe the beach of Atalaia... Both the look of the beach and the dive are amazing. The water is very transparent, with several species of fish swimming in its natural pool. You can't let go and dive in this place...

  • Quiet trail of 1, 5km, crystalline and warm water, shallow place, but with many fish of various species, even had a shark cub swimming with us. It has time and amount of people to stay and enter the pool at a time, can not use sunscreen to not contaminate the water. Just beautiful! It is worthwhile to visit.
