Royal Palace of Brussels, Brussels

4.2
See where the King and Queen of Belgium receive visitors at Royal Palace of Brussels. While the royal family's residence is just outside of the city, this palace serves as an official place for business and the reception of foreign dignitaries. Located directly in the center of the city in Brussels Park, the palace houses some of the best-loved pieces of furniture and art from generations of the royal family, such as stately portraiture, porcelain, and modern art. You can view some of the reception rooms when they are not in use. If the king is not there, the flag is raised; if he is, the honor guard is stationed outside. Combine your tour with a visit to the BELvue museum, a good place to start your visit and learn more about Belgium's royal family. A restaurant and summer cafe are located next door. • Incredibly large surface building, not very high. Several gates to enter it and tourists galore taking pictures outside. I understand it's closed most of the times. The garden opposite is public. The streets surrounding it are all cobblestone and huge. It shines during the night, being illuminated on all sides. Night shots of it look the best, so go in the late evenings.
  • The seat of the monarch of Belgium, the Royal Palace is a grand and imposing structure. There's a sprawling garden and a grand entrance to the palace. Entry is free but only for a few weeks a year. I've heard there's a unique ceiling made of Thai jewel beetles. For most tourists, it's just a nice pass by and a quick photo op.
