Museum of the City of Brussels (Musee de la Ville de Bruxelles)
Discover how the capital city became what it is today at Museum of the City of Brussels (Musee de la Ville de Bruxelles). The museum showcases a scale model of Brussels in the Middle Ages and a whole host of artifacts specific to the city, including items used by all types of people, from craftsmen to aristocrats. Paintings, textiles, tapestries, and tools fill each room of the city hall, which houses the museum. You'll recognize the building by the ornate statuary and relief carvings that distinguish it in the Grand Place, the large square in the city center. Don't miss the display of 750 costumes for the city's iconic Mannequin Pis, the famous urinating fountain. The attraction is included on the BrusselsCard (available at the tourist office), or you can purchase a ticket upon arrival. This museum is exactly what I like - it was of a medium size and contained just the right amount of a mix of different museum artifacts. The museum is over three floors in the old King's House... more »

The museum has the obligatory timelines of of Brussels' history, duly accompanied by period paintings or photographs, but the displays include more than just that. I really liked the section that... more »

Very interesting. Well presented. It is more a collection of artifacts and events than a true communication of the history. It is still worh an hour.

Lovely building, plenty of artworks which show the city through the centuries and a small documentary. The documentary is played in 3 different languages, therefore it might take a while for you to watch it in the one you understand. The price is modest, with a good discount for students of almost 50%. The location is extremely convenient and together with its price, it makes it worth the visit. Not incredible, but worth it if you are in Brussels for the week end, not if you only have a day.
