Corpus Christi Church in Nesvizh, Nesvizh

#2 of 9 in Things to do in Nesvizh
See one of the oldest Baroque structures outside Italy at Corpus Christi Church in Nesvizh. The church is an early Jesuit temple which influenced the later architecture of Belarus, Poland, and Lithuania. Take note of the Italian-style frescoes on the interior walls and the large painting of the Last Supper in the apse behind the main altar. A crypt under the church houses the remains of nearly 80 members of the powerful Radziwiłł family, who were politicians and art patrons. Mikołaj Krzysztof "the Orphan" Radziwiłł commissioned the building of the church in the late 16th century. • It is a pity that on reconstruction now, I would like to see it in full glory. But the Church is worth a visit anyway.

  • That's really, the appearance is deceptive. Under the rather laconic white walls lies a true masterpiece of temple painting - the richest frescoes and decorations. The church is called the Church of God's Body. They say that the composition of the coating under the frescoes is such that neither dust nor other dirt to them does not stick, and immediately falls on the floor of the temple. Did you know that under the church there is a unique crypt of the princes of Radziwill? The third largest in Europe. Try to negotiate with the church keeper, make a donation to the temple, which you can, and you will be led to the crypt and (if you are lucky) will tell where whose sarcophagus. You will have the brightest impression for life.

  • Very beautiful place, not far from Nesvizh castle.
  • Nothing special from outside. But everything turns out then you come inside. You can’t imagine such beauty. Everthing is left authentic from the 16th-18th centuries: incredible murals and paintings. There is Radvilas family mausoleum in the underground of this church. Descentans of this family have been buried here since 16th century till now. The founder of this church - Nicholas Christopher Radvila “The Orphan” is resting here too.
