  • This factory was built nearly 130 years ago. The Oriental style is awesome and unique.

  • Beautiful building in Oriental style former factory. insect powder. Recently it was used as a concert and Exhibition Hall, but was closed due to emergency condition. Now you can see it only from the outside. A combination of Eastern industrial purpose colour and something reminded the former tobacco factory «mosque» Jenidze in Dresden.

  • Johann Zacherl has been trading in Pyrethrum insect powder from Tbilisi since 1842. In 1870 he began producing his moth powder "Zacherl's Insecten Killing Tincture" ("Zacherlin") in Unterdöbling. In 1873, he already produced 600 tons of insect powder in his factory with four workers. To sell the powder, he set up stores in Paris, Constantinople, Amsterdam, London, New York and Philadelphia. In 1880, Zacherl handed over the company to his son Johann Evangelist. The factory for the production of the insect powder was rebuilt between 1888 and 1892. The roadside administrative tract of the industrial building built according to the design of Hugo von Wiedenfeld by Karl Mayreder, similar to the Yenidze cigarette factory in Dresden, is one of the rare examples of a commercially motivated orientalizing building. Historicism in European architecture. The Wienerberg brick factory produced the ceramic tiles used to clad the façade and roof dome. In addition to the production of the insect powder, Johann Evangelist Zacherl made up for the cleaning, repair and storage of furs and carpets. From 1903 to 1905 he built a city business house (Zacherlhaus) at the Wildpretmarkt. After World War I, sales of the insect powder fell due to high tariffs and the upswing of the chemical industry. After the death of his father in 1936, Gregor Zacherl took over the factory, where he also had ski bindings established from 1933. In 1949 Gregor Zacherl returned his business license, and in 1954 he died. The company itself was removed from the register in 1958. After the factory building, located in a large garden, had been vacant for decades, Veronika and Peter Zacherl opened the Zacherl factory for art projects in 2006 in cooperation with the Jesuit art fund. Until the summer of 2013, exhibitions and music evenings were held every year during the summer months. Due to official requirements that cannot be met for the owners, no events can take place since the end of 2013.
