Schloss Neugebaude, Vienna

4.1
Neugebäude Palace is a large Mannerist castle complex in the Simmering dictrict of Vienna, Austria. It was built from 1569 onwards at the behest of the Habsburg emperor Maximilian II on the alleged site of Sultan Suleiman's tent city during the 1529 Siege of Vienna and apparently modeled after it.
It fell into disuse already in the 17th century and today stands in ruins. Under monumental protection since the 1970s, there are various efforts to restore the site.

  • Worth a visit, no matter whether in the summer cinema under the stars, concerts, Easter - Christmas market etc. The castle was extensively renovated and offers many events, most are even free of charge, except cinema, cabaret, and guided tours. To reach the bus by the U3 end station publicly very well. Can only recommend a visit, just look on the homepage, what is now available! The gastronomy in the outdoor area is highly recommended the Greek dinner is my favorite. The children have also two playgrounds, but I personally find the whole site is "Playground" (of course, only those who are accessible!)

  • An old renaissance building where a former Austrian king lived a while. Used as a location for different events. In the front area there are some streetkitchen and a bar and you can sit outside there in summer.
  • Only open on certain days. Normally when an event/market is taking place
