At the heart of a vibrant market stands Anker Clock, an Art Nouveau clock that tells more than the time. Built between 1911 and 1914, the ornately decorated, gold-accented piece is the creation of painter and sculptor Franz von Matsch, and it makes up part of the bridge connecting two parts of the Anker Insurance Company building. At the stroke of every hour, a historical figure crosses the bridge; at noon--the time the clock is most sought out--all 12 figures emerge (including Marcus Aurelius, Rudolf von Habsburg, and Joseph Haydn), accompanied by organ music from each era. Following the performance, browse the market for a great selection of fresh bakery, produce, and deli groceries. Put Anker Clock and other Vienna attractions into our Vienna day trip site , and watch your holiday take shape.

What an amazing art Nouveau work of art. Unique. It really is one of the best attractions in Vienna. I would really suggest to plan to be there at midday, to see it working, with all the figures moving and the music on.
It's something really suggestive, I've never seen something like that anywhere. By walking through the street you'll notice it immediately because you'll find crowd of people staring beneath it. The architecture of the clock is fascinating.
