At the heart of a vibrant market stands Anker Clock, an Art Nouveau clock that tells more than the time. Built between 1911 and 1914, the ornately decorated, gold-accented piece is the creation of painter and sculptor Franz von Matsch, and it makes up part of the bridge connecting two parts of the Anker Insurance Company building. At the stroke of every hour, a historical figure crosses the bridge; at noon--the time the clock is most sought out--all 12 figures emerge (including Marcus Aurelius, Rudolf von Habsburg, and Joseph Haydn), accompanied by organ music from each era. Following the performance, browse the market for a great selection of fresh bakery, produce, and deli groceries. Put Anker Clock and other Vienna attractions into our Vienna day trip site, and watch your holiday take shape.
Anker Clock reviews

Beautiful place in the centre of Vienna. You've got to be there at 12 AM. At this time you'll see fantastic performance. more »
The mechanical clock looks very good has an unusual way of displaying the time; there is a figure of a saint that moves across the face to represent each hour. On the hour the next saint comes on and the previous one leaves as the clock chimes. The stone work is as impressive as the clock. There is a good cafe just next to it that does good coffee and great deserts. We went back at one point for cafe rather than the clock.
A super cool clock that puts on a neat show at noon. All the animated figures march around the clock. Be sure to get there early enough if you want to watch it because the crowd grows rather quickly for the spectacle.
