St George Openair Cinema, Sydney

#17 of 70 in Fun & Games in Sydney
You'd be hard-pressed to find a more scenic location for watching a movie than the St George Openair Cinema. Situated on the small peninsula that forms the eastern end of Farm's Cove, the theater features Sydney Harbour, the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and the Sydney Harbour Opera House as a backdrop behind its large screen. The theater shows blockbusters, and you should try to buy tickets as far in advance as possible. The box office releases extra tickets at 6:30 p.m. the day of a screening, but you'll want to line up early for these. Showings are rain or shine, so check the weather and dress accordingly. • We were able to get tickets online for the last evening of the season and our expectations were exceeded! Great location on the edge of the Botanical Garden, great laid out location and super organized. You got signs at the entrance with which you could reserve seats. So you had time to eat or drink on the premises, or just enjoy the sensational view of Sydney. And this IS SENSATIONELL! In the middle the canvas in the water, on the left the skyline and on the right Harbour Bridge and Opera... nothing more! When it got dark, all the lights of the city went on, a cruise ship left the port and Bohemian Rhapsody left, the goosebumps feeling was perfect! What an experience! You'll never forget that... Thank you St George Cinema! Thank you Sydney!

  • A Sydney festival must do must see...... Not to be missed. It will be your best night out in Sydney especially if the weather is good. Great views, food, and the best setting to watch a movie.  more »

  • Stunning night. Well organized food / wine restaurants with fast service. St George staff so friendly & assisted us in securing great seats. Viewing cinema with a backdrop of Sydney Harbour. Sensational!
  • Great evening out under the stars - seats have slightly improved on previous years offering an attempt to provide some padding. Not a fan of free for all idea of writing names on "reserved " seats - lots of good seats left empty forcing people to are actually there to sit in less suitable seats at the top of the stairs. Tickets seats - or requiring people to actually occupy the seats would be a much more efficient and appropriate system. Not sure why given the cost of the tickets and the “sponsors” signage everywhere they then choose to subject everyone to mindless adverts for the first 20 plus minutes – I’m rather pleased given the stupidity of the St George’s Bank adverts that if they reflect that bank I don/t bank with them.
