Manly Beach, Sydney

4.5
#1 of 461 in Beaches in Australia
Manly Beach stands as one of the best places to experience Australian beach culture. Captain Arthur Phillip gave the sandy area its name based on his perception of the masculine behavior of the indigenous people he met when he arrived in 1788. Now the long sandy beaches also are home to trendy shops and nightclubs. If you want activity, try surfing, windsurfing, parasailing, snorkeling, or scuba diving. If you prefer leisure, enjoy a picnic on the sheltered beach of Manly Cove. Only 11 km (7 mi) from downtown Sydney, the beach is easily accessible from Circular Quay via regular ferry or fast catamaran. • Manly Wharf is a great spot with various shops, and places to eat, or buy food and groceries. You can get to Manly by car, ferry, or bus. A walk through town to the main beach is where most people head. You pass many shops and places to buy food and groceries along the way. It hasn't changed much in all the years I've been visiting Manly.
  • this is really awesome beach. we visited Sydney for 5 days and this is the only beach we visited. compare to Adelaide beach you can see lots of amazing cute bikini girls. while in Adelaide i had visited all beaches in different time and dates but its hard to find girls in bikini. other than that it nice and clean beach.
  • Manly Beach is beautiful at Sunrise and a good sized beach to find a quiet spot. Most visitors don't realise that Manly has a choice of 14 other ocean and harbour beaches. Manly has 130 cafes, bars and restaurants to check out along with some amazing walks.
  • It's Manly Beach! I'd rate it better than Bondi! More space, lots of shops, bars and restaurants. And there's snorkelling down by Shelly Beach too.
