Seal Bay Conservation Park
Home to the third largest sea lion colony in Australia, Seal Bay Conservation Park is one of the most popular tourist destinations on Kangaroo Island, offering a rare nature-based experience with no enclosures or cages confining the animals. Experienced guides can take you into the heart of the sea lion colony, where you can learn how these endangered creatures fish, surf, rest, interact with their pups, and defend their territory. To protect the precarious colony, visitors can visit the beach, where the sea lions rest with their young, as part of a guided tour only. You can take unguided walks along the park's boardwalk at any time. To visit Seal Bay Conservation Park and other attractions in Kangaroo Island, use our Kangaroo Island trip tool.

Witnessing some sealions migrate from under the boardwalk to the beach, as well as various different males warning off other males from getting too close to their spot and/or females from escaping! more »

Every body knows about Seal Bay. It's a given, but I didn't know that the cute little mites sun themselves high in the sand dunes so that you are practically walking past them on the boardwalk and... more »

My family just did the platform experience and loved it but I really wanted to get closer to the seals so so I did the guided walk. Guaranteed seal viewing from the platform but would highly recommend paying the extra $10 or so to do a guided walk down onto the sand. You get to get up nice and close to the seals (great photo opportunities) and the knowledge from the guides makes it also really interesting. I absolutely loved it! Was a great start and definitely the highlight of my day and possibly the whole trip. They have a small automated coffee machine where you can purchase coffee, toilets and a small gift shop. We were lucky with beautiful weather but bring wet weather gear if it rains.

It’s a must doing while in Kangaroo Island! Even though the beach tour takes around 20-30minutes, it’s worthy to pay $10 more, rather than just staying on the platform. We cannot approach the sea lions too much, but it’s a great experience. People with cameras or binoculars could bring them to have a closer look. Early morning tours(8:30am-10am) are better, because it’s less people and quieter.
