Once a limestone cave, Umpherston Sinkhole was created when the cave ceiling collapsed. The sunken earth proved a perfect place for growing lush greenery. Thick vines cascade over the sinkhole's edge while the center is landscaped with grasses and palms. Take a walk through the garden for an otherworldly look beneath the green curtains and between the limestone rocks. • Umpherston sinkhole is not to be missed when in Mount Gambier - gardens are well cared for and make for some great photos. Make sure you visit the souvenir shop for a look at items or grab some...

  • What a gorgeous underground garden! Located just off the main Rd with short walking distance from car park. Lots of stairs to walk down into the gardens. Felt like I was in a fairytale, had that fantasy feel to it. So many pretty flowers to look at. Benches provided if wanting to rest awhile. Lots of bees but they didn’t bother us. The posters were very informative about the history of Umpherston sinkhole. Definitely worthwhile checking out if you are in the area and it’s free!
