A major landmark, St Paul's Cathedral is located near the new public heart of the city, the Federation Square. Built in the revival of the style known as Gothic Transitional, the cathedral was designed by the distinguished architect William Butterfield, who was known for his work on churches. The foundation stone was laid in 1880 on the spot where the first public Christian service was held several decades before. Unusual among the city's notable 19th century buildings, this cathedral was not made from bluestone, the dominant building material in the region. Instead, it was constructed from sandstone, which gives it an unusual yellow-brown coloring. Stop by this historic place of worship to attend one of many daily masses and hear its well-known choir. We visited St Paul’s Cathedral on Sunday December 9, 2018 for their 9:00am – Family-Friendly Eucharist with Kids’ Corner. This was our first time for a service at St Paul’s having been in the building on numerous other occasions as tourists, this visit was for worship. Andreas Loewe the Dean of Melbourne preached a very practical and helpful message. Andreas is responsible for the worship, mission and life of St Paul’s Cathedral, the Cathedral of the Diocese of Melbourne and Anglican Province of Victoria. He is an articulate speaker with an engaging style. We really enjoyed being in this historic Melbourne building and worshipping Jesus with fellow believers.

Very beautiful Cathedral, but wasn't allowed to take any photos inside! Very disappointed which is why I gave 4 stars! Has Restrooms! This cathedral is located on corner of street across from Metro Station! Has Beautiful statues inside and outside of the Cathedral! Parking lot on side of building. Handicapped capped accessible! Nice location in Melbourne!
