  • Excellent displays and well worth a visit. Some live interactive sections too with lots on Australia's 'creepy crawlies'  more »
  • Mainly made for children. Very very VERY basic information. We were so disappointed. However, if you travel with children (up to max. 12 y/o) they probably have fun.  more »
  • If you like walking knowledge of history should be enough time to stay in this 3-hour tow, rounded sides with watam details and exhibition rooms, a lot. Good opportunity zones

  • There are various things to see and learn. I love psychology section of this museum. Also it's a nice place for kids! They can enjoy the examples and understand how things were going on Earth easily. I'd recommend this place. It's located in the middle of Carlton garden.
  • An absolutely fantastic museum for young and old alike. The cafe is great with a limited selection but top-quality eats and coffee/desert standards. Specifically for children (toddlers) the indoor play area is absolutely amazing. It is colourful, interactive, engaging and completely STE(A)M friendly. The Melbourne Museum is what all museums should strive to be like; open, engaging, well-maintained and encourages young and old to explore more.
  • Really lovely museum and the staff were super friendly. I liked the exhibit about wild life, very original display. The area about European settlers and au history was very interesting and interactive. I liked the mock up cottage with the early settler interiors. I also liked seeing the first peoples art and design display. It could have been spread out a bit more though in more space. Top museum though with a nice shop.
  • Sections are OK. The mind exhibit was a bit ordinary, focusing on history more than current knowledge. The body exhibit was closed when I went but it might have been interesting. Bug exhibit is fairly detailed and there is heaps of minerals. I also liked the historical house which you can walk through - you could imagine what it would have been like to live there.
  • World-class museum with dinosaur bones, insects, animal exhibits, historical displays, and friendly and knowledgeable staff. A key area for parents is the newly-rebuilt children's play area, where kids will happily play for hours if you let them! A yearly membership is great value for families as this enables you to drop in the play centre at any time.

Where to stay in Melbourne

The hub of tourist and commercial activity, the center of Melbourne remains the best place to stay if you're looking to splurge and enjoy every possible modern amenity during your visit. Travelers on a limited budget can search for cozy yet less expensive rooms in the seaside suburb of St Kilda or the bohemian neighborhood of Fitzroy. Though the city center offers more than a fair share of mid-range lodging options, you'll also find plenty of rooms in this price bracket in the quieter suburbs.
