Federation Square, Melbourne

#2 of 471 in Shopping in Victoria
More than a popular meeting spot in Melbourne, Federation Square serves as an entertainment destination in the heart of the city. Encompassing a city block, this plaza contains bars, restaurants, cafes, art galleries, and plenty of shops. You can rent a bike here and ride around the city, or depart on a boat cruise from the nearby dock. Check out The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, holder of the world's biggest collection of Australian art. Of architectural note are the scalene-triangle sandstone building facades and ochre-colored sandstone blocks in the main square's paving. • I enjoyed my trip to Melbourne being in Federation Square. The place is very clean and well managed. Historic Flinders Station opposite of the square is another key point as I got easy access to transportation. There was a Christmas event going on in the square and I really enjoyed that😊
  • Federation Square is an amazing open public space in the very heart of the city opposite Flinders Street Station and on the Yarra River.  But it's more than just a city square!  As well as the cafes, eateries and galleries, there's always something interesting on and you can also check ahead online with the events and festivals schedule.  The architecture is also very interesting.  We love going there whenever we're in Melbourne.  A visit is highly recommended.
