Central Station Rainforest, Fraser Island

#3 of 11 in Nature in Fraser Island
World heritage site · Forest · Nature / Park
Explore a lush rain forest environment at Central Station Rainforest, a thriving ecosystem situated at the heart of Fraser Island, the largest sand island in the world. Take a walk into the center of this incredible forest, which survives against all odds by absorbing nutrients from the sandy soil. This area served as the hub of the forestry industry from 1920 to 1959, and today displays some of the rarest pines and ferns in Australia, which were planted by the loggers. The site includes camping facilities, picnic areas, and a scenic boardwalk through the rain forest. Nearby, you can also visit the small information center, which highlights key periods in the island’s history, and showcases the resilient plant and animal life surviving there now. Before you head to Fraser Island, plan trip itinerary details with our user-friendly Fraser Island trip maker app, to make sure you see all that Fraser Island has to offer, including Central Station Rainforest.
