At Faye's Underground Home, take a peek into the Hobbit-like existence of Coober Pedy residents. Inhabitants of the opal-mining town beat the South Australian heat by building their homes beneath the Earth's surface. With its small indoor pool, fully-furnished kitchen, fireplace (for winter heating), and comfortably furnished rooms you'll find Faye's home particularly sophisticated. Faye no longer lives here, but the current couple residing in her home has opened it to the public. Take a tour from them for a small fee, and listen to the history of the town and Faye's ingenious little home. The house's location underground moderates its temperature year-round, so you should be comfortable whenever you visit. • This woman was a pioneer, not only for women, but for GAY women especially. A strong, capable and very smart lesbian. Her polyamorous relationship with her leading ladies needs to be incorporated into her story and shared and told as it was. Faye was an amazing lady, the town loved her and she is a pioneer, a movie should be made to honour this lady. She put Coober Pedy on the Map!
  • An excellent attraction in Coober Pedy that is well worth your time! I only did the tour of the home but there is also a mine tour with a discount if you see both. The tour was informative and quite impressive - apparently everything is as Faye left it some 40 years ago... This one is highly recommended 👍🏼
