Experience the power of the wind at Albany Wind Farm, a wind power station featuring 18 turbines that produce over 80 percent of Albany’s electricity. The wind farm, with its long boardwalks along the rugged cliffs and panoramic views of the ocean, is a popular stop for travelers from around the world. The site’s turbines are the largest in the Southern Hemisphere, designed to withstand the strongest winds likely in the region, and incorporating special lightning protection. The farm is located at an elevated position, approximately 80 meters (262 ft) above the Southern Ocean, which allows the turbines to exploit the local wind conditions to the maximum. Albany Wind Farm Reviews
Worth a visit for the beautiful coastal views as well as a close up look at the turbines. Easy loop walk along the boardwalk to the first lookout and then along the cliff top for spectacular views... more »
You think, what interesting can there be to see Wind Mills. But it is. The lookout from there is stunning, and you can get right next to these large things and realize how big they really are. more »
Beautiful tourist location on southern coast of Albany. It's 24 hours accessible and parking is free. Also available are hang gliding and kite sports nearby but only during day.
Wonderful to see clean power generated. Albany is 80% powered by the Albany Wind Farm. Why doesn't the state government mandate 100+% clean energy for Albany. Solar is also a great option! We are a small nation, population wise - but a dirty nation energy wise. We MUST drastically reduce our coal consumption for power needs! Lets lead the World in clean energy production, rather than be dragged kicking and screaming to clean energy conferences. Politician's everywhere, but not a Statesman in sight.
