Charent's Arch, Garni

#4 of 8 in Things to do in Garni
Lookout · Monument
Standing isolated on a hill, Charent's Arch offers some of the best views of Mount Ararat--the legendary mountain where Noah's ark landed after the flood. The arch was designed by a famous Armenian architect Raphael Israyelian and erected in 1957. See the words carved in Armenian alphabet--they're taken from a poem by Yeghisheh Charents, who described Ararat as "an impassable road to glory." The surrounding area provides many hiking and cycling opportunities. Make Charent's Arch part of your personalized Garni itinerary using our Garni route builder site.

  • Great view! But! Must make sure to arrive on a day with good visibility so to get the full affect of this amazing place.  more »
  • Good for quick stop by the road. Take a few photos. Mount Ararat can be seen directly from here. Sometimes more, sometimess less.  more »
  • An experience in its own. This place is so surreal and looks beautiful with snow ladden. You can see the amount of work that must have gone into building this. Try the fresh almond and walnut bread available right outside this place.
  • Beautiful view, and the arc itself adds charm.
