The Royal Mausoleum of Mauretania is a funerary monument located on the road between Cherchell and Algiers, in Tipaza Province, Algeria. The mausoleum is the tomb where the Berber King Juba II and The Queen Cleopatra Selene II, sovereigns of Numidia and Mauretania, were allegedly buried. However, their human remains have not been found at the site, perhaps due to tomb raiding.

  • This mausoleum is an amazing construction from ancient times and not only offers a very well preserved stone pyramid but also a breathtaking view into the surrounding valley and to the coast.  more »
  • Visited this site on Jan4th, 2019. There has not been anything recorded that was found in this structure so the attribution to Juba II and Cleopatra Selene is just a speculation without hard evidence. The Algerian government is building a better access road up from the coastal thruway, so it will soon (maybe) be easier to access. It is quite an attraction for Algerian resident visitors as well as the occasional tourist group, so the existing narrow road and crowded parking lot make for an interesting visit. Nearby are the Roman Ruins of Tipasa, which are much more extensive, but have no known connection to this site.
  • Beautiful site on the top of a small mountain with sea view
